ALTON, N.H. -- Like many children, Benn Pinkham, of Alton, likes to spend his days off from school sledding. What's unusual is his choice of sledding companion.
Benn, 8, sleds down his driveway with his rooster, Roost, perched on his back. The rooster has been sledding with Benn all winter."Me and him went down first," Benn said. "Then, I started rolling off the sled. Then, he went down by himself, and I was, like, 'All right, Roost! Go by yourself.'"
Roost will sled down on his own tube, and he's also been known to do a little snowboarding. When Roost finishes his run, he patiently waits for Benn to bring him back up the hill.Benn decided to take Roost out for sledding when his friends couldn't come over."I didn't really want him to because I was afraid he'd get hurt, but he loves it," said Benn's mom, Wendy Pinkham.Pinkham said she assumes Roost enjoys it because he doesn't fly off the snowboard. The Pinkhams are considering introducing Roost to skateboarding when the weather gets nice.
