A high school senior from Nashua will be missing out on graduation day because she was home-schooled.

Nashua High School will not allow Vicky Ducharme to take part in graduation ceremonies. But Ducharme said the policy is not fair because even though she wasn't a student at the school, she was involved in some of the school's extracurricular activities.

"I think it's not fair because a lot of students that are even students at the high school don't even participate in half the things that I go to," Ducharme said.

Ducharme went to school dances and was co-captain of the volleyball team -- the state champions this year.

"Home-schooled children can play and take part in extracurricular activities, and that's pretty much the law," Principal Pat Corbin said.

Corbin said Ducharme didn't fulfill the requirements to graduate from the school.

"If you wanted to graduate from Nashua High School, she had the opportunity to go here. We would have loved to have had her and welcome her here," Corbin said. "She opted to do something different. I don't think it's fair or just to our students to allow someone in that situation to participate."

Ducharme said her family is disappointed.

"Parents love to see their kids graduate," she said. "It's something they look forward to, and it's something the kids look forward to. It's an honor. It's another step into the future."

Ducharme is going to the graduation ceremony regardless to see her friends graduate.
