Lavigne's 'Sk8er Boi' Song Becoming Movie

Movie Will Not Be Musical

Avril Lavigne's hit song "Sk8er Boi" is skating its way to the silver screen.

Avril LavigneAccording to the Hollywood Reporter online, the song -- about a girl who spurns the affection of a "skater boy" and regrets her choice years later -- has been optioned by Paramount Pictures to be adapted into a screenplay.

Scribe David Zabel (television's "Dark Angel," "ER," and "Star Trek Voyager") has been tapped to write the script.

The film will be produced by MTV Films and Alphaville.

The movie will not be a musical, but have heavy musical elements in the vein of Paramount's "Flashdance" and "Footloose," according to the Reporter.

Lavigne burst onto the music scene last year with the hit album "Let Go" and song "Complicated." She was nominated for five Grammy Awards, including Best New Artist and Song of the Year for "Complicated."
