MANCHESTER, N.H. -- Bird watchers got an up-close look at four well-known residents of the Brady Sullivan Tower on Elm Street on Friday.

Crowds Gather To See Chicks

Biologists carefully plucked four peregrine falcon chicks from their nesting spot on the 13th floor of the building. This is the fifth year that the same pair of falcons have made their nest in the building.

"With our two adults at the site, we now know that they're 5 or 6 years old. They may be here another 15 to 16 years," said biologist Chris Martin, of the New Hampshire Audubon Society. "It's important to know about the lives of these birds."

The chicks were banded, so biologists can track where they go and how long they'll survive. They were real crowd-pleasers, but the chicks let it be known that they weren't pleased with what was being done to them. Biologists said that they should recover quickly from the temporary stress.

Many in the crowd had already seen the chicks via a webcam on the Audubon Society's Web site.

"Most of the time, we see the chicks sleeping," falcon fan Sheila Perry said.

Biologists said that there have been about 16 chicks produced at the nest.
